MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Archie Gamboa on Thursday lauded police officers who are among the country's new lawyers and urged them to stay in the service. Career prospects of a lawyer.

Gamboa, also a lawyer, said he will give a PHP10,000 incentive to each PNP member who passed the 2019 Bar examinations.

“Please seriously consider a professional career in the police service more than the prospects that await you in private practice,” he said in a virtual press briefing.

Gamboa said there were members of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) and police officers with the rank of Corporal and Patrolman who passed the Bar exam but they have yet to consolidate the numbers.

"We encourage them to stay in the service. However, they won't be automatically assigned at the Legal Service because it is their choice. If they choose to be assigned there, they will automatically get the rank of Police Captain. They will be following a different career path if they choose to enter the Legal Service.

A total of 2,103 examinees or 27.36 percent of the 7,685 takers passed the 2019 Bar examinations.

Last year, a total of 1,800 or 22.07 percent out of the 8,158 examinees passed the 2018 Bar Examinations. This is lower than the 25.5 percent or equivalent to 1,724 out of 6,748 examinees who passed the 2017 Bar Examinations.
